Quote of the Day

“The purpose of life is not to be happy.
It is to be useful, to be honorable,
to be compassionate,
to have it make some difference
that you have lived and lived well.”

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Simple LivingThought of the Day

One of the simplest people I know is our friend Tony, the young man who came to share our home with us, who is now a part of our family. Tony’s purpose in life is to plant and maintain our garden, to provide food for our table, now, and in the coming winter months. Tony also looks after our chickens, making sure they have plenty to eat and drink.

The only thing Tony asks for in return is a place to pitch his tent and to share in the meals provided by the bounty of his garden. He also likes to take an occasional trip to the Wilson’s Creek Gorge, to view a sunrise in our special spot, or to take a hike into the wilderness.

Even on these special trips Tony is always ready to give of himself, each time he collects the litter left behind by careless and thoughtless others who were there before us. He does this without judgment or condemnation, he does this because it needs to be done, because it is the right thing to do.
