Thought for the Day
“I love you not only for what you are,
but for what I am when I am with you.”
~ Roy Croft
*Roy Croft
A poet credited for writing the poem ‘Love’ beginning ‘I love you not only for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you’. The poem was published in “The Family Book of Best Loved Poems”, Edited by David L George and published by Doubleday & Company, Inc, Garden City New York, in 1952. It is used commonly in wedding speeches and is quoted frequently. The poet himself is a mystery. It is likely his nationality was American and lived sometime between the years 1905 and 1980.
There is a theory which states Roy Croft never existed at all and was a pseudonym for a translator of poetry who wanted to avoid copyright difficulties.
