Thought for the Day

“I have come to believe
that if two people are prepared
to make a lifetime commitment
to love and care for each other
in good times and in bad,
the government shouldn’t deny them
the opportunity to get married.”

~ Senator Rob Portman

Rob PortmanRobert Jones ”Rob“ Portman,  born December 19, 1955, is an American lawyer and the junior United States Senator from Ohio. He served as the 14th United States Trade Representative and 35th Director of the Office of Management and Budget. On March 14, 2013, Portman announced that he had changed his stance on same-sex marriage, and now is in support of its legalization. The change came two years after his son Will came out to Portman and his wife as gay in 2011. Portman co-sponsored the 1996 federal ban on same-sex marriage, and in 1999 he also voted for a measure prohibiting same-sex couples in Washington, D.C., from adopting children.
